Call for Folk Art Submissions
The International Rescue Committee will be partnering with the Chase Home Museum in Salt Lake City this summer to bring a unique exhibit that sheds light on the experience of refugees and immigrants in making a new home here in Utah.
Artists will share their creations (painting, sculpture, textiles, pottery, music, dance, storytelling etc...) to create a diverse exhibit that brings greater understanding of the resettlement journey to our community.
Folk art reflects the daily life of a people. It is often handmade objects such as clothing, tools, blankets, and other items of use, while it can also take the form of painting or sculpture that describes daily life.
We invite you to submit your creations for inclusion in this exhibition. Please fill out an application and include photos and descriptions of your work. Please Note: The application deadline is June 30th, 2024.
We will ask you for your name and contact info, along with a few sentences on your background as an artist, and a description of your artwork. After that, we’ll ask you to upload 1 to 4 photos of your artwork for review.
If you need to edit your application please use the up and down arrows in the lower right-hand corner of the online application form.
What is The Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts?
The Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts features objects made by Utah artists from the state’s American Indian, rural, occupational and ethnic communities. The Museum offers a snapshot of Utah’s heritage and contemporary culture.
The Chase Home was built more than 150 years ago in a traditional hall-and-parlor style from adobe bricks and is itself a fine example of 19th century folk art.
The mission of the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts is to bring together Utah's diverse cultures and communities to preserve and celebrate their traditions.
Community Engagement & Workshops: A gallery located on the first floor is used as a space to facilitate engagement with contemporary folk and traditional arts and artists. Throughout the year, the Chase Home Museum hosts a variety of events that include: temporary exhibitions by local artists, hands-on activities geared towards children, and artist facilitated workshops where participants learn the history and techniques of different traditional arts.
