Childcare Business Program

The Childcare Business Program allows refugees who have been in the United States less than 6 years to learn the skills and receive the tools needed to start a home-based childcare business for FREE. This program provides the classes necessary to start a childcare business.

This program partners with community organizations including Care About Childcare and the English Skills Learning Center.

As part of this program we provide several business and finance courses along with basic child development courses. One-on-one mentoring is also provided to help clients create and maintain a successful and sustainable business at home.

** Eligible clients will receive a start-up grant to support the start up of their business.

Start your own Childcare Business

The Childcare Business Program teaches refugees how to start their own in-home childcare businesses.
Training includes financial and digital literacy, child  development, operating a business, marketing and so much more.
Supplies needed to start an in-home childcare business will be provided for free.
The goal is to help individuals become economically self-sufficient.

Requirements

  • MUST have lived in U.S. for 5 years or less (and not a U.S. citizen).

  • MUST get landlord permission to operate an in-home childcare business.

  • MUST live on the first floor of the apartment complex or own your own home.

  • MUST pass a background check.

  • MUST have basic English skills.

  • MUST be eligible for the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) Refugee Resettlement Program benefits.

** IRC Staff members will help individuals check their eligibility.

** Waivers for requirements may be granted on a case-by-case basis.

  • Support while you apply for state licensure.

  • Get your childcare license for free (including necessary certifications required for licensing.)

  • Help while you attain economic self-sufficiency by establishing your business.

  • You will learn how to navigate mainstream child care services.

  • Childcare will be provided during the classes.

Additional Information

  • This program will last 14 weeks. Clients must come to all classes and follow the protocols of the IRC.

  • This program enables individuals to start their own in-home childcare business for free. It includes reimbursement for materials and classes that are required to get the licensing required to start a business.

  • It is an extensive class that covers subjects from financial literacy to business development and childcare skills.

  • It is our goal to help you create a business that can contribute to your journey toward financial self-sufficiency.
